In a strategic move to elevate the Maldives’ global tourism profile, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has embarked on a pivotal visit to Liverpool, United Kingdom. This initiative underscores the nation’s commitment to innovative partnerships, notably with the esteemed Liverpool Football Club (LFC), to captivate international travelers.
On March 13, the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), operating as Visit Maldives, proudly announced its designation as the ‘Official Tourist Destination Partner’ for LFC. This landmark collaboration initiates a comprehensive three-and-a-half-year global campaign aimed at enhancing the Maldives’ brand presence and enticing a broader audience to its idyllic shores.
Building upon this alliance, Visit Maldives launched an ambitious outdoor campaign across the UK on March 27. This three-month endeavor leverages high-impact outdoor and digital advertising in strategic locations, featuring over 100 fully branded taxis in London, as well as prominent advertisements on buses, the London Underground, major airports, and business class lounges.
During his visit, President Muizzu is set to engage with Maldivian students and tour the AXA Training Centre to observe advanced football training methodologies. This exploration aims to integrate high-performance training techniques into the Maldives’ sports development programs. Additionally, the President will visit Leeds University and Leeds Town Hall to meet with the Councillor of the City of Leeds, fostering educational and cultural exchanges.
Concurrently, key Maldivian ministers will convene with senior officials from Red Way and the LFC Academy to deliberate on joint marketing initiatives. These discussions are poised to fortify the partnership between the Maldives and Liverpool FC, further amplifying the nation’s appeal as a premier travel destination.
Accompanying the President are esteemed officials, including Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, and MMPRC Chairman Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz. Their collective presence underscores the Maldives’ unified approach to this strategic endeavor.
President Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to conclude his visit and return to Malé on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
