In a groundbreaking move for the Maldives’ digital landscape, Ooredoo Maldives has launched the country’s first eSIM-enabled smartwatches in collaboration with Samsung. This initiative allows users to stay connected directly from their Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 7 LTE devices without the need for a nearby smartphone.
The eSIM technology empowers users to make calls, send messages, stream music, and access apps seamlessly from their wrist. This advancement offers greater freedom and convenience, particularly for those on the move.
Khalid Al-Hamadi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives, expressed pride in leading this technological advancement. He stated, “The launch of Samsung eSIM wearables marks a significant step forward in seamless connectivity—empowering our customers to stay connected, monitor their health, and manage their routines with greater ease and freedom.”
Echoing this sentiment, SangHwa Song, Managing Director at Samsung Sri Lanka and Maldives, highlighted Samsung’s commitment to innovation. “We’re excited to partner with Ooredoo Maldives to bring eSIM functionality to our smartwatches, enabling users to stay connected wherever they are—without the need for their phone,” he said.
The eSIM service is currently available for Samsung Watch Ultra 7 LTE models configured for the Maldives region. Ooredoo Maldives is offering this service free of charge for the first three months to all mobile customers, both prepaid and postpaid. After the promotional period, a monthly fee of MVR 199 will apply.
This launch follows Ooredoo Maldives’ introduction of eSIM services for Apple Watch in April, further solidifying its position as a leader in digital innovation within the country.
