President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has once again underlined his administration’s unwavering commitment to steering the Maldives’ tourism industry toward a sustainable, people-focused, and innovative future. Delivering his message on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the President paid tribute to the pioneers who transformed the Maldives into one of the world’s most celebrated hospitality destinations.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, President Muizzu said the focus perfectly mirrors his government’s priorities: ensuring that tourism continues to be a force for national progress while embracing sustainability and inclusivity. He noted the sector’s ongoing diversification, pointing to the growth of tourism in previously under-engaged atolls and the introduction of new segments such as halal tourism.
The President also underscored that these strides are backed by landmark infrastructure projects—most notably the new international terminal at Velana International Airport—which stand as vital pillars of the nation’s broader development strategy.
Expressing gratitude to all those working tirelessly in the sector, President Muizzu praised their dedication, describing it as the defining quality that makes the Maldivian experience unique in the global market. He emphasized that the future success of the industry rests on the hard work and contributions of its people, whose efforts continue to uplift the nation’s global standing.
Concluding his statement, the President renewed his pledge to advance a sustainable, people-centred, and innovative model of tourism, assuring Maldivians that under his leadership, the industry will remain a cornerstone of national growth and prosperity.
He also extended warm greetings on World Tourism Day through his official X account, reaffirming his vision of building a future where progress and sustainability go hand in hand.
