The People’s National Congress (PNC), the ruling party, has refuted allegations against its administration and emphasized the need for immediate actions concerning corruption cases linked to the former government. In a statement issued tonight, the PNC highlighted significant strides made by the police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in probing corruption allegations, with both bodies accusing former government leaders.
The PNC underscored its readiness to assist in corruption investigations, even if they involve political figures. Acknowledging that such inquiries demand time and resources, the party expressed appreciation for the independent bodies’ efforts to hasten investigations and amass evidence. The PNC acknowledged the government’s endeavors to combat corruption involving state funds.
“We urge pertinent authorities to promptly act against individuals implicated in these cases and ensure justice is served. These matters are intrinsically tied to the nation’s future and its citizens. We also call upon the police to promptly disclose their findings to the public,” stated the PNC.
The PNC accused opposition forces of targeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu with politically motivated allegations, expressing concern over the lack of action when parliament members from their previous government demanded an investigation into 2023 corruption cases. The party asserted that opposition entities are disseminating baseless accusations against the current administration through unfounded narratives.
Despite facing political pressures, the PNC affirmed that this government will not stay silent on corruption issues and pledged full support for efforts to investigate such cases. Notably, police investigations are focusing on schemes like Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya from the previous government, as well as corruption involving the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
