In a decisive move to tackle the escalating issue of scams, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has officially launched the Anti-Scam Center, operational from March 17, 2025. This initiative aims to centralize efforts against fraudulent activities and streamline communication with relevant agencies nationwide.
The Anti-Scam Center was initially established in June of the previous year as part of MPS’s strategic plan to combat various scams reported across the Maldives. Recent developments include the introduction of a dedicated call center to facilitate prompt reporting and response to scam incidents. Citizens can now report scams from any region via the National Emergency number 911, the dedicated line 125, or through email at [email protected]. Traditional reporting methods at local police stations in Malé and the atolls remain available.
Upon receiving a report, the Anti-Scam Center collaborates immediately with financial institutions to implement necessary measures, aiming to prevent further victimization and expedite the recovery process. This approach underscores MPS’s commitment to enhancing inter-agency coordination and delivering swift assistance to scam victims.
The establishment of the Anti-Scam Center aligns with MPS’s broader strategic objectives, including recent administrative reforms to meet evolving challenges. These reforms have introduced specialized units such as Gang Crime Enforcement and Digital Data and Technology departments, reflecting a comprehensive strategy to modernize and enhance policing services nationwide.
The MPS acknowledges and appreciates the public’s cooperation in combating scams and urges continued vigilance. By promptly reporting suspicious activities to the Anti-Scam Center, citizens play a crucial role in safeguarding themselves and others from fraudulent schemes.
This initiative marks a significant step towards a more secure and scam-aware Maldives, reinforcing the nation’s resilience against fraudulent activities.
