President Muizzu advocates for AI and E-Learning to unite Maldives’ education system

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 24, 2025

On International Education Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized that the Maldives’ unique geography necessitates the integration of technology to deliver quality education across its dispersed islands. He highlighted the government’s commitment to developing a comprehensive education system utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality, and e-learning platforms.

“In a nation of scattered islands, technology is our bridge to quality education,” President Muizzu stated in a social media post. He underscored the importance of digital tools in overcoming geographical challenges and ensuring equitable access to educational resources.

The administration is actively pursuing the digitalization of both education and healthcare sectors. During a recent visit to Estonia, a global leader in digital innovation, the Maldives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Estonia’s Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs. This agreement focuses on collaboration in information technology, AI, smart technologies, and cybersecurity, aiming to enhance the Maldives’ technological infrastructure.

President Muizzu’s vision aligns with the theme of this year’s International Education Day, which emphasizes maintaining humanity in education amidst emerging technologies. By embracing digital solutions, the Maldives seeks to provide inclusive and quality education, ensuring that every student, regardless of location, has access to the tools necessary for success in the modern world.

As the Maldives continues its digital transformation, the government’s initiatives reflect a commitment to leveraging technology to overcome geographical limitations, fostering a more connected and educated society.
