President Muizzu announces commencement of National Service training for 343 Maldivian youth

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially announced the commencement of training for the first batch of recruits under the Maldives National Service (Dhivehi Wathanee Khidhumai), a landmark initiative to empower and unite the nation’s youth.

Out of 1,242 applicants, 343 young Maldivians—64 females and 279 males, aged between 16 and 29 from 107 islands—have been selected in the initial round and began their training today.

In his announcement, President Muizzu warmly welcomed the participants and their families, underscoring that the National Service is central to his administration’s vision of fostering unity, discipline, and patriotism. He stressed that the program is designed to revive national pride, strengthen Islamic values, and prepare young people to stand resilient in the face of challenges confronting the Maldives.

The President highlighted that the National Service aims to:

  • Develop citizens capable of responding to national threats and disasters.
  • Prepare youth for roles in the nation’s security services.
  • Instill qualities of teamwork, respect, patience, and discipline.
  • Shape productive, skilled, and responsible citizens.
  • Ensure Maldivian youth are spiritually, mentally, and physically strong.

This milestone, President Muizzu affirmed, reflects his Government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a new generation of patriotic Maldivians who will carry the nation forward with honor and responsibility.
