Bank of Maldives has achieved a historic milestone by completing its national ATM expansion program, ensuring uninterrupted banking access for every inhabited island in the country. The achievement was celebrated today at a high profile ceremony where His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu honoured the dedicated team behind this landmark project.
Implemented under the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ initiative, the Bank has now installed 258 ATMs across all 20 atolls. This includes more than 100 new state of the art machines added in less than a year, rapidly expanding self service banking to communities that previously relied on costly trips to nearby islands for basic financial services. The rollout has delivered 24 and 7 accessibility to every inhabited island, strengthening both economic independence and quality of life.

Speaking at the ceremony, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef stressed that the Bank has fulfilled its promise to the Maldivian people. He highlighted that this expansion reflects BML’s mission to place modern and reliable financial services within reach of every citizen, regardless of geography. He credited the success to careful coordination, strong partnerships and the unwavering commitment of the implementation team.
The nationwide ATM network now plays a key role in empowering small businesses, supporting household finances and driving economic activity across the country. It also demonstrates the Bank’s leadership in digital transformation and financial inclusion at a time when equitable access is essential to national progress.
This milestone has earned international recognition. Bank of Maldives recently received the Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial Inclusion award, celebrating its exceptional contribution to strengthening financial access for island communities.
With this achievement, Bank of Maldives stands firmly as Dhiveheenge Bank, fully aligned with President Muizzu’s vision for a connected, prosperous and economically resilient Maldives.
