President Muizzu enjoys overwhelming public confidence as approval surges past 60 percent

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 13 hours ago

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu continues to enjoy strong public backing, with more than six in ten Maldivian voters approving of his performance midway through his first term, according to the latest nationwide opinion poll.

A December 2025 survey by the Baani Centre for International Policy shows that 62 percent of voters either strongly approve or approve of President Muizzu’s leadership, while 38 percent express disapproval. The results give the President a net approval rating of plus 24 points, signalling sustained confidence in his administration during a decisive period of governance .

The poll indicates broad-based national support, with President Muizzu performing particularly strongly outside major urban centres. Approval among voters in rural islands stands at 64 percent, compared to 58 percent in urban areas including Malé, Addu City, Fuvahmulah, Thinadhoo, and Kulhudhuffushi. This divide highlights the administration’s continued resonance with island communities and decentralised populations .

Age-based analysis further reinforces the President’s standing. Support is highest among voters aged 55 and above, where approval reaches 67 percent, reflecting confidence in the President’s policy direction and leadership approach. Among younger voters aged 18 to 24, approval stands at 50 percent, demonstrating competitive support within a traditionally dynamic and demanding demographic .

Women show slightly higher approval of President Muizzu than men, with 64 percent of female voters expressing support compared to 60 percent of male voters. Observers note that this balanced backing across gender, geography, and age groups points to a leadership profile that extends beyond narrow political bases.

The opinion poll was conducted nationwide via telephone interviews between 23 November and 1 December, following internationally recognised polling standards. The findings reinforce President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s position as a leader with a clear and durable public mandate as his administration advances its reform and development agenda .
