President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the newly inaugurated Hanimaadhoo International Airport will serve as the primary gateway to development for HDh. Atoll and the entire northern region of the Maldives.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, the President said the project was fast-tracked and 70 percent of the work completed in a short period, fulfilling his earlier commitment to residents of Hanimaadhoo.

The President described the airport as more than a transport hub, calling it an integrated development zone that will catalyse progress in tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and other key sectors. He noted that the facility will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable and balanced economic growth across the northern atolls.
President Muizzu highlighted that the government will facilitate opportunities for both local and international investors to expand tourism and business ventures in the region. He urged enterprises of all sizes to seize this “golden opportunity” and invest in northern Maldives.

He further said that Hanimaadhoo itself will witness rapid development as the airport strengthens links between the northern islands and global markets, bringing wider prosperity to the nation.
Underscoring the partnership between Maldives and India, the President added that the Hanimaadhoo Airport redevelopment stands as a symbol of the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
