President Muizzu inaugurates Immigration’s e-Visa platform under Maldives 2.0

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

In a ceremony held today by Maldives Immigration, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated the country’s new e-Visa service — a groundbreaking step that ushers in a new era of digital governance under his visionary initiative “Maldives 2.0.”

Developed entirely by Maldivian professionals at Immigration, the e-Visa platform and mobile application mark a major advancement in the nation’s service transformation agenda. The system eliminates the long-standing need for physical appointments and passport submissions, allowing applicants to apply for, receive, and verify visas entirely online.

Before this digital shift, individuals and companies were required to submit printed forms, make appointments, and appear in person at Immigration for visa stamping — a process that was especially difficult for those residing outside Malé. The e-Visa now resolves these challenges, offering convenience, speed, and nationwide accessibility.

Approved visas can be downloaded instantly online, each featuring a unique QR code for authenticity verification. Foreign nationals can also view their e-Visa details through the Maldives Immigration mobile application.

The service will be open to the public starting from the 23rd of this month. Officials described the launch as a “historic milestone” that places Maldives Immigration among the most digitally advanced agencies in the region.

The e-Visa is a central pillar of President Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” vision, which seeks to extend government services digitally to every island, ensuring equal access, efficiency, and transparency across the nation.
