Marking the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering dedication to upholding human rights.
In a message shared on his official social media account on Tuesday, President Muizzu reflected on the interconnected nature of rights, emphasizing that dignity, equality, and justice form the foundation of a democratic society.
“As we commemorate Human Rights Day, we are reminded that our rights are interconnected,” the President stated. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and inclusive society through policies that ensure equitable access to healthcare, education, and justice, addressing the nation’s distinct challenges as an island nation.
The President also underscored the government’s pledge to uphold press freedom, workers’ rights, and gender equality while advancing environmental sustainability to secure a better future for generations to come.
This year’s Human Rights Day theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” serves as a call to action to prioritize human rights in addressing global challenges and building a just future.
The Maldives has consistently highlighted its commitment to human rights on both domestic and international platforms, aligning its policies and actions with these principles to strengthen democracy and societal well-being.
