Segment 1 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project is now fully complete and open to the public, delivering the first visible results of a flagship infrastructure initiative undertaken by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company. MTCC noted that the upgraded stretch introduces modern, pedestrian-friendly design features aimed at easing congestion and improving safety across one of the busiest corridors in the capital.

The newly widened road improves overall accessibility in Malé City by creating a smoother traffic flow and strengthening the city’s mobility network. A fully integrated stormwater drainage system has also been installed, a crucial addition that will reduce flooding during heavy rainfall and increase the resilience of the area for all road users.
MTCC described the opening as a transformative moment, underscoring that the development aligns with the administration’s push for safer, more efficient and future-ready urban infrastructure. The project is also one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s key pledges for modernising Malé’s road network.

Recently meeting Malé residents, President Muizzu reiterated that Segment 2, stretching from the Fish Market area to Maldives Ports Limited, will begin next. He stated that this second section, which widens the remaining corridor and enhances drainage and pedestrian access, will be fast-tracked for completion soon.
