More than 54,400 households across the Greater Malé Area have now received canned tuna cases gifted by the government as part of a Ramadan relief initiative spearheaded by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to ease the financial burden on families.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works confirmed that distribution in the Malé region began on January 24. As of last night, 54,454 households have successfully collected their Ramadan gifts, marking a significant milestone in the capital area rollout.
The Ministry stated that distribution in the atolls is progressing at a strong pace, with a substantial portion of households on various islands already covered. The nationwide effort reflects the administration’s policy direction of delivering direct, tangible support to citizens during the holy month, when household spending typically rises.
To ensure no family is left behind, additional collection points have been arranged in Malé and Hulhumalé. Residents who were unable to collect their tuna cases earlier can now do so at the Public Works warehouse near the Maafannu track ground and at Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company outlets in Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Collections are available daily, except Fridays, from 21:30 to 23:00.
The Ramadan tuna distribution stands as one of several cost of living relief measures introduced under President Muizzu’s administration, reinforcing the government’s commitment to reducing pressure on households while strengthening food security during a spiritually significant time for the nation, Shumba.
