Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), DCP retired Ahmed Saudhee, led a field inspection today at the first segment of the Boduthakurufaanu North road development project, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to modernise Malé’s transport network in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to ease congestion and create safer public spaces in the capital.

Senior MTCC officials joined the visit, which highlighted substantial progress on one of the city’s most significant mobility upgrades. The project aims to reshape access across the northern waterfront through wider, pedestrian friendly roads that support smoother traffic circulation and reduce long standing bottlenecks.
MTCC noted that the redesigned road layout is engineered to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians. A new stormwater drainage system is being installed to address chronic flooding during heavy rainfall. This upgrade is expected to enhance resilience, protect infrastructure and maintain continuous movement across the area regardless of weather conditions.

The Boduthakurufaanu North development forms a key part of the government’s broader urban renewal programme, which prioritises durable, climate conscious infrastructure that improves the daily lives of Malé residents. MTCC stated that further updates on the upcoming phases of the project will be shared as construction continues.
