Segment 2 of the Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project was inspected today by senior government and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company officials, as efforts intensify to complete the key urban upgrade before Ramadan.

The inspection visit was led by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, accompanied by the Managing Director of MTCC, Ahmed Saudee. Officials reviewed progress on site and assessed ongoing works under the second segment of the project.
Segment 2 follows the recent completion and opening of Segment 1, marking steady advancement of the redevelopment along one of Malé City’s most important road corridors. Once completed, the upgraded roadway is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve pedestrian movement, and significantly enhance road safety.

According to MTCC, the project features widened, pedestrian friendly roads and a modern stormwater drainage system designed to reduce flooding during heavy rainfall. The upgrades aim to deliver more resilient urban infrastructure while addressing long standing mobility and drainage challenges in the capital.
The inspection reaffirmed the government’s commitment to timely delivery. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that Segment 2 will be completed before Ramadan, positioning the project as part of a broader national infrastructure drive focused on efficiency, resilience, and improved quality of life for Malé residents.
