Baarashu Constituency MP Ibrahim Shujaau has stated that the ruling People’s National Congress has both the resolve and willingness to introduce changes in response to the message delivered by voters in the recent Local Council Elections.
Speaking during a parliamentary debate on amendments to the Land Act proposed by MP Mohamed Ibrahim, Shujaau said the outcome of the elections indicated that the public expects adjustments in certain areas of governance.
He noted that President Mohamed Muizzu has acknowledged the electorate’s decision and has already signaled his intention to review and refine existing policies where necessary.
According to Shujaau, the party views the election results as constructive feedback rather than a setback, emphasizing that it is prepared to respond with meaningful action.
He also took aim at the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, suggesting that internal divisions within the party reflect a lack of clear direction.
Reassuring the public, Shujaau said the PNC would not hesitate to revise policies if they are found to require improvement. He stressed that such decisions would be guided by the needs and expectations of citizens.
The MP further stated that the party does not intend to approach its electoral performance with arrogance, adding that winning seats should not lead to disregard for public sentiment.
He concluded by noting that any future policy changes would be shaped by listening closely to the people and respecting the choices they have made at the ballot box.
