Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has issued a strong statement praising the Maldives Police Service for their patience and steadfastness in the face of violent opposition tactics during last night’s MDP-led protest in Malé.
In his remarks, Abdul Raheem said the actions of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) were deliberately planned to confront the police and disrupt the nation’s peace and harmony. “The Maldives Police deserve praise for their patience and steadfastness in the face of the deliberately planned actions by the MDP to confront the Maldivian Police during last night’s protest, aimed at disrupting the nation’s peace and harmony,” he declared.
He further expressed heartfelt appreciation to the police, commending their tireless efforts in maintaining the country’s peace and security despite repeated provocations by the opposition.
The Speaker’s statement comes after verified reports confirmed that MDP protesters violated their permitted route, broke through barricades, hurled objects at officers, and attempted to seize police equipment. The violent disruption has drawn sharp condemnation from government leaders, who continue to highlight the administration’s commitment to law, order, and the protection of all citizens.
By commending the police while condemning the MDP’s reckless defiance, Speaker Abdul Raheem reinforced the government’s message that violence will not be tolerated, and national stability will always be safeguarded.
