Speeding Motorcycle Hits Police Officer During Hulhumalé Checkpoint Stop – 18‑Year‑Old Detained

At approximately 20:20 last night, police officers performing routine vehicle inspections at the checkpoint on Hulhumalé Javahirumaa Hingun were struck when a motorcyclist refused to stop and sped through the area, colliding with an officer.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Yoonus Khaleel Abdulla, resident of M. Bahaaru Villa, Malé. Yoonus, who is not licensed to operate a motor vehicle, was immediately detained by police.

A police officer sustained injuries following the impact and received prompt on-site medical attention. The officer’s current condition has not been disclosed.

The Maldives Police Service has launched a full investigation into the incident, which highlights ongoing concerns about unlicensed vehicle operation and checkpoint safety protocols. No further individuals are believed to be involved at this time.
