Dhiraagu, the leading telecommunications provider in the Maldives, has announced the opening of registrations for the first-ever Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run, marking the expansion of its renowned Maldives Road Race series beyond the Greater Malé region. This landmark event is scheduled for May 2, 2025, in Fuvahmulah City.
At a recent press conference held at Dhiraagu’s head office, Director of Brand Marketing and Communications, Mohammed Mirshan Hassan, highlighted that the race will feature a certified route adhering to international standards, akin to the Dhiraagu Road Race. He emphasized the company’s commitment to quality by capping participation at 1,500 runners to ensure an optimal experience.
“The Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run is an extension of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race. We are prioritizing quality over quantity by limiting the number of participants to 1,500,” Mirshan stated.
Assistant Manager of Brand, Naaiya Shareef, detailed the race categories, which mirror those of the main event: Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and school categories for Under 13 and Over 13 participants. She announced a total prize pool of MVR 232,000, with winners recognized across multiple categories.
“This race will be no different from the Dhiraagu Road Race. Winners will be selected across multiple categories, with a total prize pool of MVR 232,000,” Naaiya noted.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race holds the distinction of being the only international race in the Maldives. It is listed under the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), included in the World Running Calendar, and features a World Athletics Certified Route. The Fuvahmulah Run has also been listed on the AIMS calendar, underscoring its international recognition.
In addition to the Fuvahmulah Run, Dhiraagu will continue its tradition by hosting the annual Hulhumalé edition of the race, scheduled for October 24, 2025. This expansion reflects Dhiraagu’s dedication to promoting a healthier, more active community and supporting local tourism by showcasing the unique beauty of the Maldives.
