The State Electric Company (STELCO) has confirmed that electricity has been fully restored to both Malé and Hulhumalé, following a blackout that struck the capital region earlier this morning.
In its final update, the utility confirmed that engineers completed the energizing and synchronization of the Greater Malé Interconnection Grid ahead of schedule, bringing power back to all affected areas.
“Electricity supply has now been restored to the entire Malé and Hulhumalé. We thank the public for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience caused” STELCO said.
The outage, which began around 9:20am, temporarily disrupted homes, businesses, and essential services. STELCO attributed the disruption to a technical issue but did not provide further details.
The company urged customers to report any persisting issues via its hotline (104) or contact centre (1545).
