STELCO Maintenance to Cause Power Cuts in Henveiru, Maafannu, Machchangolhi on June 1 at 6 AM

By Ahmed Ashraf Published May 31, 2025

Residents of Malé are advised to prepare for brief power outages in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025, as the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) undertakes essential maintenance work on the city’s electrical distribution network.

The planned interruptions are set to occur between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM, affecting various areas within the Henveiru, Maafannu, and Machchangolhi districts. STELCO has emphasized that these disruptions are necessary to facilitate critical upgrades aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the power supply across the capital.

In a statement released on their official social media channels, STELCO expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and assured the public that efforts will be made to minimize the impact of the outages. The company also highlighted the importance of the maintenance work in preventing unplanned power disruptions in the future.

STELCO has a history of conducting scheduled maintenance to improve the electrical infrastructure in Malé. For instance, on May 7, 2024, the company announced power outages in certain areas of the city to facilitate essential upgrades to the power grid.

Residents and businesses in the affected districts are encouraged to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the temporary power loss. This includes charging essential electronic devices in advance and planning for any potential disruptions to morning routines.

STELCO continues to invest in the modernization of Malé’s electrical infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the city’s population and to ensure a stable and efficient power supply for all consumers.
