STELCO Strengthens Thoddoo’s Power Grid Amid Tourism and Urban Growth

By Ahmed Ashraf Published November 6, 2025

In response to Thoddoo’s rapid urban development and growing local tourism industry, the State Electric Company (STELCO) has delivered a new 1000-kilowatt generator to the island to strengthen its electricity network.

STELCO stated that the installation aims to meet the increasing demand for reliable power from both residents and businesses. Once commissioned, the new generator is expected to significantly enhance service quality and ensure consistent electricity supply across the island.

Thoddoo, one of the most active guesthouse tourism hubs in the Maldives, has experienced steady population growth and rising commercial activity in recent years. The new power upgrade aligns with the government’s broader commitment to modernize utility infrastructure across the atolls and support sustainable regional development.
