The State Trading Organization and Japanese electronics giant Hitachi celebrated a major milestone as the two partners marked 25 years of collaboration with a high profile ceremony at Barcelo Nasandhura on Friday night, 28 November 2025.
Hitachi, a company with more than a century of global history, has long been a trusted name in Maldivian households. Since its introduction to the local market, its air conditioners, refrigerators and other appliances have become familiar fixtures across the country. The anniversary ceremony highlighted how the brand’s credibility and STO’s distribution strength shaped a partnership that has remained strong for a quarter century.

The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, attended as Guest of Honor. Hitachi’s Managing Director Yoshiyuki Bando and senior company officials joined the event alongside STO Chairman Amir Mansoor, board members, Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim and several former STO executives.
Speeches delivered by Ambassador Ishigami, Managing Director Bando, Managing Director Shimad and STO General Trading Director Ibrahim Mirzak reflected on the evolution of the partnership. They noted the impact Hitachi products have had on improving convenience and quality of life in the Maldives and outlined plans for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
A curated display showcased Hitachi appliances currently available in the Maldives. STO and Hitachi also honored four leading customers who recorded the highest volume of Hitachi purchases over the past 25 years. A highlight of the night was the official launch of the new Hitachi New Air product line.
The ceremony marked a significant moment in the long standing relationship between STO and Hitachi, reaffirming shared ambitions to strengthen cooperation and celebrate future milestones as the partnership enters its next chapter.
