President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all government projects are implemented with efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The announcement was made during his visit to Maaen’boodhoo island in South Nilandhe Atoll, where he addressed local residents about the nation’s development plans.
During his visit, the President emphasized that his vision for national development is closely aligned with the aspirations of the citizens. He provided assurance that key projects, such as the long-awaited land reclamation initiative on Maaen’boodhoo, will proceed on schedule once the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is approved. When completed, the reclamation project is expected to add 30 hectares of new land to the island, with two hectares designated separately at the request of local residents.
“Our approach is different this time. In the past, projects were fragmented, with one company handling the sub-base, another laying the turf, a different one installing the lights, and yet another building the rostrum. We will not repeat that. We plan ahead and leverage government resources to procure items like fences and lights in bulk for facilities such as football stadiums, futsal grounds, and netball courts, ensuring the most cost-effective process,” President Muizzu stated.
In addition to discussing land reclamation, the President reaffirmed that, as mentioned in his recent Presidential Address, developmental projects on all islands are set to resume in February and March. He reminded the gathering of two pledges made during the election campaign for Maaen’boodhoo: one for land reclamation and another for upgrading sports facilities, alongside ongoing efforts to improve education and healthcare infrastructure on the island.
Highlighting the current status of local healthcare services, President Muizzu noted that although work has begun on the extension of the island’s health centre, the initial phase—limited to an administrative wing—falls short of addressing the community’s full needs in terms of resources and space. He promised that further efforts will be made to expand and enhance these services.
The President also announced plans to upgrade the Maaen’boodhoo football grounds and introduce new recreational facilities, including a volleyball court and a fitness recreation centre. These initiatives form part of his broader pledge to establish fully equipped fitness centres, outdoor gyms, and children’s parks across all inhabited islands.
In addition to these community projects, President Muizzu stressed that the quality of life in the Maldives will receive a significant boost with the planned expansion of the RTL ferry service, expected to be fully operational by year-end. Addressing longstanding power supply issues, he revealed that brand-new generating sets have already been procured and will be implemented before Ramadan begins.
President Muizzu’s remarks underscore a holistic approach to national development—one that prioritizes not only infrastructural improvements and economic efficiency but also the mental, emotional, and social well-being of the people. His visit to Maaen’boodhoo reflects his ongoing commitment to engaging with local communities and delivering tangible benefits that improve everyday life across the nation.
