In preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, the Maldivian government has announced designated hours for the transportation of goods within the Greater Malé region. This initiative aims to manage increased traffic and ensure smooth logistics during this period.

Transportation Schedule from 1st to 19th Ramadan and 1st to 7th Shawwal:

  • Permitted Hours: Goods transportation is allowed from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM and from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • Prohibited Hours: Transportation is restricted between 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

  • Permitted Hours: Transportation is permitted from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM and from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • Prohibited Hours: Movement of goods is restricted between 4:30 PM and 8:00 PM.

These schedules were established after consultations between the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, and the Maldives Police Service. The objective is to alleviate traffic congestion and accommodate the surge in commercial activities during Ramadan.

Businesses and transport operators are urged to adhere strictly to these timings. Non-compliance may result in penalties, as authorities emphasize the importance of cooperation to ensure public safety and efficient traffic flow during the festive season.

This measure reflects the government’s commitment to facilitating a conducive environment for both commerce and community activities during a time of heightened significance for the Maldivian populace.
