State Minister of Tourism, Mohamed Nihad, has been suspended following his controversial allegations against the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). During a last night gathering at the People’s National Congress (PNC) headquarters, Nihad accused the MDP of plotting a terrorist attack aimed at international tourism resorts in the Maldives, allegedly to disrupt the nation’s tourism industry.
The former representative for Addu Feydhoo constituency, Nihad, claimed that the purported attack was scheduled to coincide with the arrival of two million tourists on an upcoming Thursday. He suggested that this plan was intended to undermine government efforts and block potential benefits and significant foreign investments.
Nihad’s statements have sparked significant backlash, leading to his suspension amid widespread calls for accountability. The opposition MDP has also demanded a thorough investigation into Nihad’s assertions to address concerns regarding these serious allegations.
