A teacher previously detained on allegations of grooming and engaging in inappropriate conversations with students has been released from custody. This decision was made by the Magistrate Court on the island where the incident took place, citing that the teacher does not pose a threat to society.
The police have not issued a statement regarding this development. However, as reported by the local news source “Mihaaru,” the magistrate responsible for the release order personally delivered the court summons to the police while the teacher was still in custody—a move that is atypical for a magistrate.
Initially, the court had approved a 20-day detention period for the suspect, arrested on October 27th. Upon his second court appearance, this period was extended by an additional 30 days.
The suspect, a 29-year-old man, faces serious allegations involving approximately twenty children. The Prosecutor General’s Office received the case on the 25th of last month for potential charges.
As the incident occurred on an island in central Maldives, legal restrictions prevent disclosing information that might identify the minors involved. Consequently, specifics such as the island’s name and further details about those involved remain undisclosed.
