Mihaaru, a local newspaper, has reported that the Ministry of Education has suspended a teacher and referred the matter to the police following allegations of abuse involving a student with disabilities. The incident was brought to the Ministry’s attention by a school in Male’, where a female teacher, responsible for educating special needs students at the primary level, is accused of mistreating the student.
Expressing grave concern about the incident, which took place earlier today, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu emphasized that student abuse is intolerable. Consequently, upon receiving the report from the school, the Ministry promptly alerted law enforcement authorities.
Minister Shafeeu assured that the Ministry would diligently forward such cases to appropriate bodies and implement measures to prevent future occurrences. He urged educators to prioritize safeguarding students’ rights and ensuring they learn in a secure and joyful environment. It is noted that there have been previous suspensions of teachers over similar allegations.
