Terror in the Tweets: MDP Activist Linked to Fayyaz Faction Calls for President Muizzu’s Assassination

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 10, 2025

A Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist loyal to Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail’s faction, identified as Aishath Shiman Ahmed (username @dh0nkeyo on X), is under investigation for allegedly inciting the assassination of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu through a coded social media post.

According to the Criminal Court order, police confiscated Shiman’s phone after she posted on September 20, quoting a news article about rising prices of local goods — an issue President Muizzu has previously exposed as being politically manipulated by opposition-aligned business groups to create public discontent.

In her post, Shiman wrote “Kirk H*m”, a phrase that investigators believe refers to killing President Muizzu in the same manner as an attack on U.S. far-right figure Charlie Kirk. Police intelligence reports submitted to the court indicate that the post was deliberately worded as a veiled death threat, mirroring online extremist behavior observed in foreign radical circles.

The Criminal Court has ordered Shiman to provide all necessary passwords and authentication data to access her phone and social media accounts. Credible police sources confirm that the device has been unlocked, and the FBI is assisting Maldivian authorities in interpreting the post and its international connotations.

Security officials describe the case as a disturbing example of how elements within the MDP’s Fayyaz-led faction are resorting to hate speech and incitement, abandoning democratic discourse for dangerous radicalization.

“This is not political criticism — it is an open call for violence against the elected Head of State,” a senior security source stated. “No democracy can tolerate such extremism disguised as activism.”

The government has vowed to take decisive action against all individuals and networks promoting violence or destabilization, reaffirming its commitment to protecting national security, preserving peace, and upholding democratic stability.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and reject divisive narratives spread by radical opposition figures seeking to undermine the nation’s progress under President Muizzu’s leadership.
