President Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver his third Presidential Address on 5 February 2026, coinciding with the opening sitting of the People’s Majlis for the first parliamentary term of the year.
The People’s Majlis Secretariat said the sitting will take place on the same day, following a decision by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
Delivered in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution, the Presidential Address serves as a formal overview of the state of the nation and outlines the government’s priorities and policy direction for the year ahead. The session is expected to be attended by senior government officials, the Chief Justice, members of the diplomatic community and other invited dignitaries.
President Muizzu first addressed Parliament in 2024 at the opening of the Majlis, followed by his second address at the start of the 2025 parliamentary session. Both speeches featured major policy announcements and development initiatives focused on economic reform, governance and public welfare.
Ahead of this year’s address, the President has indicated that significant announcements will be made. Speaking at a ceremony last Thursday to inaugurate the ruling People’s National Congress office, he said the upcoming Presidential Address would include important decisions and updates for the public.
Until 2023, the day of the Presidential Address was observed as a public holiday. However, the President’s Office announced in January 2024 that the occasion would no longer be designated a public holiday, a change that remains in effect for this year’s sitting.
The address on 5 February is expected to provide insight into the administration’s legislative agenda and national priorities as the new parliamentary term begins.
