Authorities have announced that this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations will be held over three days, with a series of family-friendly events planned across several locations in the Greater Malé area.
The festivities will take place under the banner “Eid Evening 1447”, a national programme designed to bring families and communities together in a festive atmosphere following the holy month of Ramadan.
The celebrations are being coordinated with the support of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the Maldives Police Service, and several state-owned enterprises.
According to organisers, the main Eid Evening events will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Eid al-Fitr, with activities continuing for three consecutive days.
A number of public spaces have been selected to host the festivities, including the marble area outside the Islamic Centre, Jumhooree Maidhaan, and the Presidential Jetty area. Additional events will also be held at Central Park in Hulhumalé, Hiyaa Park in Hulhumalé Phase 2, and the Vilimale Football Stadium.
Meanwhile, Sultan Park will be opened on Eid day to host a range of activities linked to the celebrations.
Organisers say the event will feature a wide variety of entertainment, games, and sporting activities aimed at children and families. Various government institutions and private companies will operate themed stalls offering interactive experiences, activities and Eid gifts.
Special displays are also planned, including exhibitions by the MNDF showcasing military uniforms, operational equipment and vehicles used on land and at sea. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the equipment up close and take photographs.
A number of state-owned enterprises are participating in this year’s programme, including STELCO, Male’ Water and Sewerage Company, Waste Management Corporation, Maldives Ports Limited, Housing Development Corporation, State Trading Organization, Maldives Airports Company Limited, Road Development Corporation, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company and Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company.
Officials say the celebrations are intended to promote unity, strengthen community ties and provide families with an enjoyable way to celebrate the Eid holiday together.
