In a major anti-drug operation led by the Maldives Police Service, ten individuals were arrested in Malé on July 31 following a joint crackdown by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and the Drug Enforcement Department.
According to Police, the arrests were made based on intelligence received by the Counter Narcotics team. Two houses in the capital were searched during the operation, resulting in the seizure of three bottles of alcohol and illicit substances suspected to be narcotics. The provisional weight of the drugs is reported to be 66.92 grams.
Following their arrest, all ten suspects were presented to the Criminal Court for remand hearings. Seven were released with conditions, while three were ordered to remain in custody:
- Aishath Faiha Taha, 19, from Flowerhouse, HDh. Nolhivaran, was remanded for five days.
- Akram Mohamed, 28, from Saamiyana, N. Manadhoo, also received a five-day remand.
- Ahmed Thaiseer, 27, from Roshanee Mage, S. Hulhudhoo, was remanded for seven days.
Police have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as they work to dismantle the suspected drug network and determine the full extent of the operation.
This latest raid highlights the continuing efforts by Maldives Police to crack down on narcotics trafficking and protect communities from drug-related crime.
