Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has arrived back in Male’ after completing an official visit to Dubai, where he attended the prestigious World Governments Summit 2025. The summit provided a platform for global leaders to discuss governance, innovation, and climate change initiatives.
During his time in Dubai, Vice President Latheef participated in the opening plenary session and was present at the Global Government Excellence Award ceremony. He also engaged in specialized discussions at the Government Experience Exchange Forum and the Climate Change Forum held on the sidelines of the summit.
In his keynote address at the Climate Change Forum, the Vice President underscored the urgency of addressing climate issues. “Climate disasters do not wait for political negotiations, intensifying storms do not align with economic cycles, and rising temperatures do not recognise borders,” he stated, emphasizing the need for immediate and collaborative action.
The forum was attended by notable international figures, including UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment Amna Al Dahak and Madagascar’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Max Andonirina Fontaine, who joined the discussions alongside Vice President Latheef.
Accompanied by a senior government delegation, Vice President Latheef’s participation in the summit reaffirms the Maldives’ commitment to engaging with the international community on critical issues ranging from government excellence to global environmental challenges. The insights gained at the summit are expected to contribute to shaping policy and fostering sustainable development back home in the Maldives.
