The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a forecast indicating significant rainfall for certain islands in the Maldives today. According to the weather update valid until 6:00 PM, the southernmost atolls will experience the effects of the Curry effect. Additionally, other regions are expected to encounter rainy conditions, with potential heavy rain and thunderstorms on some islands.
The Met Office has indicated that winds in the southern atolls will be blowing from the northwest and north, while other areas will see winds from the north and northeast, with speeds ranging from 8 to 18 miles per hour. In squall conditions, wind speeds could rise to approximately 40 miles per hour.
The sea conditions are anticipated to be moderately rough, escalating to rough during squalls, with wave heights between three to six feet.
Furthermore, a trough has developed southwest of the Maldives in the Bay of Bengal. Consequently, it is predicted that much of the Maldives will continue to experience rainy weather until the 18th of this month.
