In a landmark step towards securing the nation’s digital future, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has inaugurated its cutting-edge Cyber Security Operation Centre (CSOC). Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen described the launch as “the beginning of a new era in protecting our nation’s digital borders” emphasising its crucial role in defending citizens and vital infrastructure against the growing tide of cyber threats.
Purpose-built to serve as the nation’s “shield and watchtower” in cyberspace, the CSOC will detect, prevent, and neutralise online attacks before they can compromise national interests. Commissioner Naveen stressed that in today’s interconnected world, safeguarding the country requires not only boots on the ground but also a formidable presence in the digital domain.
The project was realised through the generous support of the United Arab Emirates, a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations. Commissioner Naveen extended special gratitude to H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, President of Cybersecurity for the UAE, for his strategic guidance and unwavering commitment. He also commended Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusaan for his decisive leadership in bringing the centre to life.
“This facility ensures that the Maldives stands ready, resilient, and united in the face of any cyber threat” the Commissioner affirmed, pledging continued collaboration with international partners to protect the nation both physically and digitally.
The 11th August inauguration of the CSOC stands as a defining milestone in the Maldives Police Service’s modernisation drive, signalling the country’s preparedness to counter an ever-evolving and hostile cyber landscape.
