The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has announced that the Women’s Edition of the Maldives Travel Conference 2025 will be held in Addu City. Scheduled for January 25, the event will take place at Equator Village in Gan, marking a significant step towards empowering women in the tourism industry.
Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Visit Maldives, Addu City Council, and other key stakeholders, the conference aims to foster dialogue and create more opportunities for women in the tourism sector.
Women-centered organizations such as Women in Management Maldives, Women on Boards, and the Women Entrepreneurs Association will actively participate in the event. MATATO has confirmed that the keynote speaker and all panelists at the conference will be women leaders and professionals from various fields.
The conference will focus on two primary topics: enhancing economic opportunities for women in Addu City and addressing negative societal perceptions surrounding women in the workforce, particularly those working in the tourism sector. Discussions will also aim to dispel the misconception that tourism careers are limited to resort jobs.
As part of the conference, a free financial literacy training session, organized by the Business Centre Corporation (BCC), will be offered exclusively to women. Registration for this session is open until January 20 and can be completed via MATATO’s official website.
The Women’s Edition of the Maldives Travel Conference reflects MATATO’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowering women to take on more active roles in the country’s tourism industry, particularly in the southern regions. The event is expected to attract a diverse audience and create new pathways for women’s economic participation.
