The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has awarded Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) a bundle of 14 infrastructure development projects spanning 14 islands, with a combined value of USD 104 million, roughly MVR 1.60 billion.
The contracts cover land reclamation, beach protection, road development and harbour development, underscoring the government’s continued push to expand island connectivity and strengthen coastal resilience across multiple atolls.
A major share of the package focuses on dredging and coastal protection. Dredging and beach protection projects were awarded for islands in Haa Alifu, Noonu, Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu atolls, including Vashafaru, Hen’badhoo, Holhudhoo, Maalhendhoo, Bandidhoo and Kanduhulhudhoo. MTCC also secured works for the Alifushi Industrial Zone in Raa Atoll.
Separately, beach protection projects were awarded for Gaafaru, Maafaru and Filladhoo, widening the scope of shoreline reinforcement works across key population and development areas.
Beyond coastal projects, the contract list includes development of Ungoofaaru harbour in Raa Atoll, construction of an artificial beach in Ihavandhoo, Phase 2 road development in Fares Mathoda (Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll), and harbour-related works in Muraidhoo (Haa Alifu Atoll).
Local reporting said the agreements were signed on Tuesday, with MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy signing on behalf of the company.
