The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) will handle all transactions related to signing agreements with recipients of the 4,000 Gedhoruveriya flats developed under the second phase of the Hiyaa housing scheme in Hulhumalé.
According to Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, the agreement-signing process will officially commence next week. He assured that necessary arrangements are now in place to ensure a smooth and transparent transition as flats are handed over to eligible recipients.
To streamline the process, the Ministry has begun sharing recipient details with FDC, which will oversee agreement formalities and facilitate handovers. Priority will be given to towers where construction is complete and ready for occupancy. Recipients will be contacted only through the official “Gedhoruverin Portal,” and the Ministry has cautioned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent phone calls or SMS messages that are not preceded by portal notifications.
The 4,000-flat initiative marks the largest social housing effort in the Malé region and involves the development of 32 residential towers. Construction was divided between two Indian contractors: Kalpatharu Projects International Limited (KPIL), responsible for 16 towers branded as “Amaan Udhares,” and National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), which is constructing the remaining 16 towers under the name “Amaan Dhoadhi.” The flats include a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, with final stages now focusing on utility connections.
Amid public concerns over the previous administration’s allocation process, the current government launched a thorough review through a special committee. The committee identified numerous cases where applicants failed to meet eligibility criteria. These individuals were given the opportunity to respond and file complaints, ensuring a fair and accountable selection process moving forward.
The commencement of agreement signings marks a critical step toward delivering long-promised housing relief to thousands of Maldivian families.
