55m Quay Wall Capping Completed as MTCC Pushes Malé Northside Road Segment 2 Forward

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 25, 2026

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed that works under the second segment of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project are progressing as scheduled, with several key milestones already achieved.

According to MTCC, capping concrete works for 55 metres of the quay wall have been completed, securing a major harbour-side structural component. Preparations are now underway to begin paving of the harbour-side sidewalks and the installation of settlement tanks, marking the next phase of surface and drainage works.

MTCC noted that the latest progress builds on earlier achievements under Segment 2, including the completion of 85 metres of sheet pile installation, ongoing reclamation works, and near completion of water and wastewater network upgrades. Additional works such as sidewalk construction on the building side, stormwater catch pit installation, and cable junction installation have also been advancing in parallel.

The road development project is a pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who has previously stated that Segment 2 is targeted for completion before Ramadan. Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to enhance accessibility across Malé City through modern, pedestrian-friendly roads, reduced traffic congestion, and improved stormwater drainage to mitigate flooding during heavy rainfall.
