Maalhos Murder Investigation Advances with Arrest of Three Suspects

By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 21, 2025

Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in the killing of Abdurahman (Abdul Rahman) Adam, 65, of Orchidmaage, AA. Maalhos, a major step in a case that has unsettled the island community since mid-July. Officials have not released the suspects’ identities.

According to reliable sources who spoke to The Standard News, the men in custody are Mohamed Wisaam (23) from Lilyfehi, Ahmed Ashid (28) from Fiya, and Ahmed Faris (28) from Finivaage, all from AA. Maalhos. Police have not publicly confirmed these names.

Abdurahman was discovered at home around 1:50 a.m. with severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Maalhos Health Centre shortly after. Investigators believe he was attacked while asleep with a heavy object; a special team from Malé secured the scene and began forensic work.

In the early phase of the probe, authorities restricted departures from Maalhos and collected potential evidence, including devices and clothing, as part of a broad sweep for leads. The victim’s body was later sent to Trivandrum, India, for an autopsy, which confirmed fatal head trauma.

While the latest arrests signal progress, police have yet to disclose a motive, detail the evidence linking the detainees to the crime, or indicate whether additional suspects are being pursued. The community—where the victim was widely regarded as a quiet, law-abiding resident—continues to press for answers as the investigation moves forward.
