MTCC begins sheet piling for Boduthakurufaanu Magu expansion

By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 23, 2025

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially commenced sheet piling works for Segment 1 of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu north-side development project, a landmark initiative that will reshape Male’ City’s busiest roadway into a modern, four-lane highway.

MTCC Managing Director DCP (RETD) Ahmed Saudee overseeing the sheet piling works.

MTCC confirmed that the project is designed to enhance accessibility, ease traffic congestion, and create pedestrian-friendly spaces across the capital. The widened roads will bring immediate relief to the city’s long-standing congestion challenges, while modern pedestrian lanes will provide a safer and more comfortable environment for residents.

A key feature of the project is the introduction of a comprehensive stormwater drainage system, aimed at reducing flooding during heavy rainfall. This upgrade will significantly improve resilience and safety, ensuring Male’s roads remain functional and secure even in adverse weather conditions.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu project, awarded to MTCC by the government at a value of over MVR 144 million, is being carried out in phases and is expected to be completed within 15 months. Once complete, it will include an 830-meter roadway, 737 meters of sheet piling, advanced drainage lines, new streetlights, road signage, and tarred surfacing.

As the largest public contracting company in the Maldives, MTCC continues to be at the forefront of national infrastructure development. From harbors and coastal protection to modern urban roads, the company has built a strong reputation for delivering projects that directly improve the lives of Maldivians.

This milestone in Boduthakurufaanu Magu’s redevelopment once again underscores MTCC’s pivotal role in realizing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of a modern, safe, and livable Male’ City.
