The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has suspended Fathimath Guraisha Mohamed, Assistant Director of Business Development and Sales, following serious allegations of corruption, unauthorized land sales, and attempts to cover her tracks by manipulating official records.
According to reliable sources, Guraisha allegedly facilitated unauthorized sales of prime land parcels in Hulhumalé and Thilafushi, bypassing established procedures and paving the way for corruption. In a further escalation of the scandal, she is also accused of accessing HDC’s internal system and altering key information in an attempt to destroy evidence and obstruct accountability.
ACC Investigation Underway
The matter has now attracted the attention of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which is said to be investigating multiple cases related to her actions. Investigators are reportedly reviewing both the land transactions and the alleged digital tampering, which, if proven, could carry severe legal consequences in addition to the reputational fallout she already faces.
Tarnished Reputation
For an official holding a senior sales and business development position — a portfolio tied directly to HDC’s revenue and credibility — the accusations deal a devastating blow. Analysts point out that her actions, if confirmed, not only threaten institutional integrity but also erode investor confidence in two of the Maldives’ most critical development hubs.
Her suspension last week is viewed by many as a decisive move by HDC’s new leadership to root out entrenched malpractice. Yet for Guraisha personally, the scandal marks a dramatic fall from grace, with her name now firmly associated with corruption, system tampering, and ongoing ACC probes.
As the investigation unfolds, the case serves as a stark reminder of the high cost of abusing public office for personal gain, with both professional credibility and legal standing at risk of being irreparably destroyed.
