President Muizzu launches National Engineers’ Day, pledges award from 2026

By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 30, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the establishment of a National Engineers’ Award from 2026, a landmark initiative aimed at celebrating the vital role of engineers in nation-building.

The announcement was made on 30th August, during the inaugural National Engineers’ Day in the Maldives. In his address, the President formally declared that this day will be observed annually, coinciding with the historic inauguration of the Sinamalé Bridge, the country’s largest infrastructure project, which has transformed the daily lives and economy of Maldivians.

Highlighting the bridge’s profound impact over the past seven years, President Muizzu underscored that engineers are at the heart of his Administration’s vision to make the Maldives a developed nation by 2040. He stressed their role in driving digitalisation, expanding renewable energy, and building the infrastructure of tomorrow.

He ended with a heartfelt prayer for a golden era of prosperity, led by the innovation and dedication of Maldivian engineers.
