Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced key progress on the Boduthakurufaanu north side road development project, a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing congestion in the capital.
Managing Director DCP (Retd.) Ahmed Saudhee inspected the site on Tuesday, where 72 meters of sheet piling has been completed and the demolition of the quay wall capping in Segment 1 has been finalized. In addition, reclamation works are underway to extend the road and build a new quay wall.
The project, described by MTCC as transformative for Malé City, will deliver modern, pedestrian-friendly roads with widened lanes to reduce traffic bottlenecks. A new stormwater drainage system is also being integrated into the design, expected to mitigate flooding risks during heavy rainfall.
Once complete, the development will significantly improve accessibility and resilience in the capital’s road network, aligning with broader government efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and enhance quality of life for residents.
