Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), the national airline of the Maldives operating under the brand Maldivian, has officially commenced work on its first dedicated office building in Malé after 25 years of service.
The foundation stone for the project was laid during a special ceremony attended by key government and industry leaders, including Minister of Transport Mohamed Ameen, Minister of Infrastructure Dr. Abdullah Muttalib, MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, IASL Managing Director Ibrahim Ilyas, and Deputy Managing Director Ali Saleem.
Transport Minister Ameen, sharing the milestone on X (formerly Twitter), described the occasion as a “historic step” for the national carrier, noting that the new headquarters will consolidate all company operations under one roof for the first time in its history.
The building, designed as a 12-storey commercial complex, will house the airline’s management offices and core services. Officials noted that the project is expected to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Construction has been awarded to China’s Hunan No. 6 Engineering Company, a firm with an established track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across the region.
IASL, established in 2000, operates domestic flights across the Maldives’ dispersed islands and international routes to destinations in South Asia and beyond. The new office investment comes amid the airline’s broader efforts to expand its fleet and improve service delivery, reflecting the government’s push to modernize the country’s aviation sector.
