Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim marked World Tourism Day 2025 with a heartfelt message, saluting the men and women whose tireless efforts have made the Maldives a global leader in hospitality. He praised the sector as the engine of national prosperity and a transformative force shaping the country’s sustainable future.
Highlighting the resilience of the Maldives’ tourism industry, Minister Thoriq noted that the sector has not only driven economic growth but also supported employment, education, and community development across the nation. “Your hard work, commitment, and passion have been instrumental in making the Maldives a world-class destination” he said.
Underscoring this year’s global theme of tourism as a force for positive change, the Minister stressed the importance of balancing growth with environmental protection, safeguarding cultural heritage, and ensuring equitable benefits for all Maldivians. He pointed out that international tourism receipts reached USD 1.6 trillion in 2024, with arrivals expected to grow by 3–5% in 2025 — growth mirrored in the Maldives’ steady post-pandemic recovery.
Thoriq reaffirmed that under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the government is committed to investing in infrastructure, innovation, and global marketing to solidify the Maldives’ position as a sustainable and inclusive destination. He urged all stakeholders — from businesses to local communities — to embrace responsible practices and safeguard the environment for future generations.
Concluding his address, the Minister expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the tourism sector and called on Maldivians to take pride in the nation’s achievements. “Together, we can ensure that tourism continues to be a source of pride, opportunity, and positive transformation for our nation” he said.
