Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has strongly condemned the violent turn taken during tonight’s opposition protest in Malé, organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
In a post shared on X, the Minister stated:
“Forcibly taking equipment from an on-duty police officer is not considered a peaceful political activity, as it involves coercive or violent actions that disrupt law enforcement duties.”

The remarks came as protesters, who had taken a permit to march along Ameenee Magu, suddenly attempted to change their route and push through Majeedhee Magu near Artificial Beach, clashing with police officers and trying to break barricades.
Ihusaan’s message underscores the government’s position that attacks on law enforcement cross the line from protest to violence, and that such disruptions will not be tolerated. His statement, issued in the middle of unfolding events, positions him as the firm voice of stability and law enforcement within President Muizzu’s administration.
