WAMCO launches “Fahi Jeel School Program” to cultivate sustainability among students

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 14, 2025

The Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has inaugurated its new “Fahi Jeel School Program”, aimed at instilling sustainable waste management habits among Maldivian schoolchildren.

The initiative kicked off with the participation of 80 students from Galolhu School, marking the first phase of a broader educational campaign designed to familiarize young people with eco-friendly waste handling practices.

According to WAMCO, the program seeks to create environmental awareness and empower students to take an active role in building a cleaner, greener Maldives. Through interactive learning sessions, site visits, and demonstrations, participants will gain hands-on experience in waste segregation, recycling, and composting — essential components of responsible waste management.

The launch of Fahi Jeel (which translates to “Green Generation”) aligns with WAMCO’s wider strategy to promote behavioral change and support the national sustainability goals outlined by the Government of Maldives. By engaging schools, the corporation hopes to nurture a generation that values environmental stewardship from an early age.

WAMCO stated that the program will be expanded to other schools across the Maldives in the coming months, strengthening the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce waste, encourage recycling, and enhance public participation in sustainable development.
