Four Days of Rough Weather Ahead — MET Office Warns of Strong Winds, Rain, and Tidal Effects Across Maldives

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 16, 2025

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued an official seasonal weather update, warning that the westerly monsoon will intensify over the Maldives region in the coming days, bringing strong winds, rough seas, and widespread rainfall across the country.

According to the advisory, winds are expected to strengthen and become more severe during squalls, while seas will remain generally rough, posing risks to small vessels and inter-island travel. The forecast also indicates scattered rain and thunderstorms in multiple areas, with possible tidal effects during high tide periods.

The MET Office has urged all residents and travelers to stay informed through official weather updates, exercise caution, and avoid unnecessary sea travel, particularly between October 17 and 20, 2025, when conditions are expected to be most hazardous.

Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance and preparedness, especially for fishermen, boat operators, and island communities, as the southwest monsoon continues to dominate the region’s weather patterns.

Public Advisory:

  • Stay updated with MET forecasts and alerts
  • Avoid sea travel during rough conditions
  • Exercise extra caution during squalls and high tide
  • Postpone non-essential trips until weather improves
